Grapefruit Seed Extract for treating worms in dogs

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) for the treatment of worms in dogs

There are many types of worms and intestinal parasites and all of them cause problems for dogs including diarrhoea, weakness and weight loss! They live in a dog’s gut, steal food, important nutrients and can cause damage.

We believe in taking a natural approach to worm treatments and Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) is one of the frontline holistic treatments for worms.

How does Grapefruit Seed Extract work?

GSE is a citricidial liquid that provides a natural solution to treating worms in dogs. It is made from the pulp, seeds, and white membranes of grapefruit, making it a very acidic liquid.

The acid from the GSE helps to remove the mucus lining of the stomach and makes the digestive system too acidic for worms and parasites to survive, therefore killing them and any worm larvae.

What are the benefits to Grapefruit Seed Extract?

Grapefruit Seed Extract is a holistic alternative to harsh chemical wormers which strip the gut of good bacteria, cause digestive upset in your dog and intestinal parasites grow immune to the power of the chemical wormer with overuse.

Our GSE comes in liquid form (it has a gel-like consistency), so is easy to administer, providing a simple alternative to worming tablets that may be difficult to give to some dogs. Made from all natural ingredients, you really can’t go wrong.

How much Grapefruit Seed Extract should I use?

The recommended dosage for treating intestinal parasites in dogs is: 1 drop per 1kg of weight, for 10 days.  (A 10kg dog will need 10 drops per day for 10 days).

How do I give my dog GSE?

We recommend adding the GSE straight to food (regardless of whether feeding a raw, dry or wet diet).  The dosage can be split over two meals per day.

Does GSE treat all types of worms in dogs?

GSE will treat and clear all types of intestinal parasites in dogs (including hookworm, tapeworm, whipworm, roundworm and giardia).  There is limited evidence to support treatment of lungworm with GSE.  We therefore do not recommend it as a treatment for this potentially serious parasite and would reccommend consulting your vet for treatment.

Are there any side effects to using Grapefruit Seed Extract?

There are no reported ill-effects of using GSE to treat intestinal worms and parasites in dogs.

How do I know if Grapefruit Seed Extract treatment has worked?

Once you have completed the recommended time scale for using GSE (10 days), we would always recommend retesting your dog for worms to ensure they have all been cleared. We offer a GSE liquid and retest kit bundle, so you can save money and make sure your treatment has worked.

Could GSE be used regularly as a preventative measure?

We don't recommend giving anything to your dog on a regular basis that has a distruptive effect on the natural balance of their gut. Although GSE is a natural, holistic remedy, it is best used for treatment.  Worms cannot be prevented, they can only be treated.

From a personal standpoint, my dog Reggie tested positive for Hookworm. I used the GSE liquid for a course of 10 days, I then restested him to make sure all the worms had gone and to my amazement, Reggie was clear which is why we now stock GSE and I am a huge advocate of its benefits! We have a lot of customers using this natural remedy for treatment of intestinal worms and have yet to recieve feedback that it hasn't worked.

Pleaes make sure you wormcount your dog regularly - we recommend 3-6 monthly intervals.

With Woofs and Wags,

Laura, Dolly & Reggie
