Is fish beneficial for a balanced doggy diet?
To be blunt – absolutely! Fish has amazing health-promoting factors and is key to a balanced meal and a healthy dog. Fish is a great easy protein source full of nutrition, vitamins, minerals and healthy fats such as; calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, phosphorous, iodine and iron for dogs.
How can I get fish into my dog's diet?
Sea Sprinkles – our unique blended meal topping made from a variety of fish such as anchovies and sprats.
Treats – We recommend natural treats only! These can include frozen/dried sprats or fish skin bars, batons or bites.
Food – Fed as part of a raw/cooked meal or high quality dry food/kibble
Salmon Oil - a fantastic supplement that should be added to raw/cooked food or high quality dry food/kibble
So, why is fish so beneficial for my dog?
Eye Sight – helps improve vision in low light, slows down age-related sight loss and helps with many eye diseases due to it being full of Vitamin A
Skin & Coat -maintains healthy skin, including the lining of the nose which is partly why your dog has such an excellent sense of smell.
Immune System - Seafood is packed full of selenium, this is important to the immune system; it helps restore and prevent damage to cells and tissues. Sprats and Herring are good examples of this.
Teeth – Dried Fish skins are great for your dogs’ dental health; our fish bars have a rough texture which helps remove tartar and plaque from the teeth. Which in turn results in a fresher breath.
How else can Fish help?
-Fish is also great for dogs with allergies or intolerances e.g. Sickness, skin rashes, itching, ear infections, swelling, stomach pain, wind and diarrhoea. White fish is especially good for dogs after tummy upsets.
-Fish is full of vitamins and minerals, as well as Omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish which act as a natural anti-inflammatory.
- Great for dogs with Irritable bowel disease and liver or kidney disease, whilst also being relatively low in saturated fats and good for weight control
So that sums it up, fish is vital to well-balanced diet to keep your pooch in top-notch condition.
