Why Is My Dog Sick In A Morning?

Why is my dog sick in the morning?

Known as the 'Hunger Pukes', it seems more prevalent in raw fed dogs (the digestion rate of raw food is a lot quicker than kibble fed dogs as there are no fillers in raw food.  Fillers in kibble make the biscuits expand and digest slower, which keeps your dog full for longer).

In most cases, the sick is a clear or yellow foam which indicates that the dog's stomach is relatively empty of food. The yellow colour comes from bile, a digestive fluid that's produced in the liver, stored in the gall bladder and then released into the small intestine just below the stomach. A dog may vomit clear or yellow foam simply because his stomach is empty and the bile can be irritating. If your dog is otherwise healthy — and he's eating and pooing normally — it may help to include a couple of small treats between meals and just before bed.

Ideal small snacks are things such as Black PuddingWhitefish Jerky Mini BitesSpratsPork Spaghetti - just a couple between meals or at night as a bedtime treat will work wonders at reducing the 'hunger pukes'.

You could also reduce the amount of time between meals - this doesn’t mean that your dog should be fed more but instead, one meal can be divided into two or three smaller but more frequent feedings.

Unfortunately, there are many medical conditions that can cause a dog to vomit on an empty stomach, so a phone call to your vet is a good idea if our suggestions don’t help or more symptoms appear.
