Tick Removal Service

How do I know if my dog has a tick?

Ticks are brown or grey, egg-shaped insects that suck the blood from the host. Once they have fed, their bodies become big enough for you to see and you may also find them if you feel across your dogs body. It is best to check them after you have been for a walk. Ticks do not fly so will climb or drop onto your dogs body from grass or leaves. (People often mistake ticks for warts!)

Why should ticks be removed properly?

Ticks are very good at passing on diseases, which is why it is so important to have them properly removed when you find them. If left, ticks can cause infections like Lyme's disease, which is a serious illness that would require medical attention. The best removal method is to twist them to ensure the head is also removed and not left in the skin as this can cause irritation and possible infection.

Can I prevent ticks?

If you live in an area that has ticks, for example places with lots of woodlands, fields and wildlife, you can buy tick repellents, which will help keep them at bay. At Dragonfly, we have a range of Flea Off products that work to repel fleas and ticks. The longer ticks are left, the more likely they are to cause infection.

We feel it is important to raise awareness about ticks and how important it is to get them removed in a safe and effective way, which is why we want to offer this service to our customers. We will even teach you how to do it yourself!

How much does it cost?

Tick removal costs £5.  We will remove the tick for you safely and apply a natural antiseptic to the area.  If you wish, you can watch us remove the tick and we will explain how you can do this yourself.  BOOK HERE or call 01484 246420
